LWVUS National Popular Vote: Information Meeting.
Delegates at LWV Convention 2008 adopted a study of the feasibility of using the National Popular Vote (NPV) Compact among the states as a method for electing the president. This meeting will be in preparation for consensus on this subject at a March meeting.
Two speakers, Rep. Paul Luebke and Professor Mike Munger, will present the pros and cons of this method of electing the President.
Paul Luebke, is a Democratic member of the NC General Assembly, a professor of Sociology at the UNC-Greensboro, and an author of two books about North Carolina politics: Tar Heel Politics: Myths and Realities (1990) and Tar Heel Politics 2000 (1998). Professor Mike Munger is Chair, Political Science Dept., Duke University.

Durham Forum on Election Methods.
The League of Women Voters of Orange, Durham, and Chatham Counties will host a forum on the election methods used in Durham for its local elections. The form is open to the public.
The forum will provide citizens of Durham the opportunity to be informed about the different election methods currently used in Durham and some recently proposed changes by the Durham Board of Elections, who asked the City Council to switch to the non-partisan plurality method for municipal elections as a budget-cutting measure. The City Council will hold a public hearing on April 6 to hear comments on the proposal.

This ensemble production from the Touring Theater of North Carolina recreates the personal stories of women who served as Army nurses, WACs, WAVES, and Red Cross volunteers in World War II.
